I am Elora Mitra. I live in Winnipeg, Canada. My story began from a small suburban town in India called Jalpaiguri, in the state of West Bengal, where I was born and brought up in a traditional and conservative family. While growing up four decades ago in a small place, I faced the socio-cultural restrictions on freedom of expression that were imposed on women growing up in the society. During my formative years, I was always fascinated by beauty and fashion industry. But I was not encouraged to pursue a career in that.
Western society celebrates expression of freedom and Canada is not an exception. To fulfill my long-cherished dream of becoming a part of the beauty and fashion industry, I enrolled myself in the Mrs. Canada beauty pageant and have been selected as a finalist. I am the only Bengali finalist among 20+ contestants. My journey from Jalpaiguri to Canada wasn’t easy. After coming to Canada, managing family and work life with a small child was a challenge. Now that my daughter is in University, I have ample time to pursue my life-long dream. I am also a trained Indian classical dancer. I regularly take part in various cultural programs. Painting is my passion. Abstract is my genre. I am a solo traveller. I love to explore new places. I practice meditation to keep myself calm and balance my life.
